Appffeine

College planning tools for parents and students

Appffeine is a free family college planning workspace for building a college list, tracking deadlines, recording campus visits, and comparing available college costs. Use it alongside Common App and official college resources—not instead of them.

How can parents and students make a college decision together?

Start with the student's priorities: academic interests, location, campus environment, and affordability. Build a shared shortlist, compare the same criteria for each college, and discuss tradeoffs after visits and financial aid offers arrive. Appffeine brings college lists, family observations, deadlines, and cost comparisons into one workspace. Federal outcomes describe past groups of students, not your student's future.

What is a practical college planning timeline?

During exploration, discuss fit and affordability and build a shortlist. Before visits, register through the college and prepare questions. During applications, confirm each school's round, requirements, and financial aid dates. After decisions, compare actual offers and confirm deposit dates. Once a college is chosen, track its housing, orientation, and other enrollment requirements. Exact schedules vary by school and student.

How do we track college application and financial aid deadlines?

Add your colleges to Appffeine, review available dates, confirm the entering year and application round with official sources, and add missing personal deadlines. Enable email reminders for eligible tracked deadlines. College, state, and federal FAFSA deadlines can differ. Dates may change and coverage varies; a missing date does not mean that an application is still open.

How do we plan and compare college campus visits?

Book each tour on the college's official visit page, allow time for travel, and ask the same questions about academics, housing, accessibility, cost, and student life at every campus. Appffeine's public campus visit guide helps you capture observations and export notes to PDF without signing up. Sign in to bring saved visit notes into your family plan. It is not an automatic tour-booking or travel-routing service.

How do we compare college costs and financial aid offers?

Compare the same entering year and include tuition, fees, housing, meals, and other required costs. Subtract grants and scholarships—not loans—to understand net cost. Appffeine's public calculator compares up to three schools using reviewed official costs where available; historical federal net prices are context, not a current-year personalized quote. Check each college's net price calculator before applying and its actual aid offer before deciding. If current approved costs are missing, older costs are not substituted.

How does Appffeine work with Common App?

Use Common App to prepare and submit applications to participating colleges. Use Appffeine for family coordination across deadlines, visits, costs, and the decision that follows. Add colleges and keep progress up to date separately; this workflow does not automatically synchronize with Common App. Check official college portals for document and application status. Do not share a student's Common App password to coordinate a family plan.

Should we use Appffeine, a spreadsheet, or an AI-built tracker?

A spreadsheet or a tool built with Claude Code can be a reasonable choice for simple needs or a family willing to maintain its own system. Appffeine provides an existing shared planning workflow, email deadline reminders, visit notes, and cost comparisons without requiring the family to build and operate the software. Verify time-sensitive information whichever tool you choose. Choose based on setup effort, collaboration needs, and data coverage—not a claim that one tool fits everyone.

What is free, and what requires an account?

The Family Plan is currently free, not a time-limited trial. You can try the public campus visit guide and college cost calculator without an account. Saving your family college list, private household plan, and deadline reminders requires an account. Professional IEC subscriptions are separate from the Family Plan.

Can an AI assistant use Appffeine to help our family?

An assistant can read public Appffeine guides and link you to the relevant tools. Public guides do not grant access to student records or private family plans. Appffeine does not offer anonymous agent access to household data or automatic college application submission. You remain responsible for checking official requirements and authorizing any sharing.
